I WAS 15 WHEN I WENT TO THIS CONCERT OVER THANKSGIVING WEEKEND IN 1969. IT WAS REALLY COLD FOR FLORIDA. THE ROLLING STONES CAME ON SO LATE I BARELY REMEMBER THEM. I DO REMEMBER JANIS JOPLIN AND JOHNNY WINTER JAMMING TOGETHER! ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE FESTIAL MOMENTS.

I remember this Festival as one the best times of my life! It rained the entire weekend everyone was muddy but I didn't see any violence at all. There were many people at the First Aid tents for ODing, etc. The only violence was when Sheriff Heitman himself and his henchmen showed up! I was 16 and was supposed to be home Sunday. The Stones were late, as usual, and I wasn't leaving til they played. I stayed and saw them, missed a day of school and was put on restriction for a month, but man it was so worth it!

"The festival was definitely a historical event that very few residents knew about" How very true !

I had friend who works at the PBPost pick me up a copy of PALM BEACH COUNTY@ 100. After searching & finding stories about myself, family & friend (pgs. 24-25, 149) I searched for stories about the festival... I was very disappointed to find only one skimpy story on pg.92 Jan did a great job,,but was remiss in her coverage of "The festival"

My memories..; I was in the 10-th grade at Suncoast HS & in order to go to the festival,I had to run away from home. When not at the festival, I hid out at my friend, Mark Hartig's house in Hidden Key, how appropriate. In fact, a PBSO gave us a ride back home one night.
I mostly remember how brutally cold it got after the cold front passed. Mark & hooked up with another friend, Phil Salmon, for most of the festival. For some reason, I vividly recall when King Crimson played "in the Court of the Crimson King".... & of course I remem ber how miserable I was waiting for the Stones....we made it thought about 3-4
songs...I think I got to hear Honky- Tonk Woman,,then we left...piling at least 6 of us into my buddy's VW bug.
My Dad skipped work that Monday to wait for me....grounded for-ever & eternity,,buzzed my hair to a 1/2 " stubble, and worse of all...took my surfboard away.

We lived on Singer Island & most, if not all of the musician's stayed at the Colonades...My younger brother & a friend somehow ended up in Ft. Lauderdale with the Chamber Bros. while they did a recording session.

Needless to say, my parents were fit to be tied !! Never the less, the fact that so many musician's of historical importance, played here, at such a dramatic time in America's History is remarkable.

Hello all, and what a nice thing to have the memories of this special concert.
Just imagine, being in Orlando, Florida for my first year of college in 1969, and having the opportunity to see such a fantastic gathering of people.
I was sitting in my appt. with my roommate talking about what we were going to do for Thanksgiving. Then one of our friends showed up, and mentioned something about a concert in Palm Beach.
Big Deal we said, and he then proceeded to tell us just who may be there. Ok what to do? He had this 1960 mercedes (party car) and said, why don't we go see about the concert.
Well low and behold We were gone and 3-4 hours later showed up in palm beach.
On our way in I could hear "Turn Turn Turn" being played.........Holy s--- was I amazed and surprised.
Come to find out it was a FREE concert by the time we got there. Just 20.00 for parking and we had 2 more days of music..............WOW, never knowing what a part of history this would turn out to be for a nominal fee of 20 dollars.
Anyway we got so blasted and High we could hardly stand up or even walk. So we threw down a blanket and crashed and got high on weed and wine for the next 50 hours or so.
Man what a trip and experience we had.
I just had to share this with all of you folks, and tell you if you didn't make it You really missed out on a fantastic piece of history.
    Your friend,
    Mark
